What is a stepper motor?

Stepping motors are devices capable of producing a definite angular displacement in a driven shaft and holding its position against a torque applied to the driven shaft. Stepping motors are commonly used in applications, such as numerically controlled machine tools, electronic instruments, and computer peripherals.
